To say disability is not inability is a true reality in life. Human
beings shall never believe that they are disabled in a way as they
expect a disabled person to be handicapped either not able to walk, see
or hear.
The truth whether you agree or disagree is that we all have disabilities but only that the disability is not hindering us from performing normal tasks such as cooking and cleaning.
Have
you ever heard that inability to understand basic arithmetic concepts
such as fractions and whole numbers or having problems with motor tasks
such as breaking things and inability to organize oneself is a type of
disability?
Learning disability is a classification that includes several areas of
functioning in which a person has difficulty learning in a typical
manner, usually caused by an unknown factors. Given the
"difficulty learning in a typical manner", this does not exclude the
ability to learn in a different manner. Therefore, some people can be
more accurately described as having a "Learning Difference", thus
avoiding any misconception of being disabled with a lack of ability to
learn and possible negative stereotyping.
However, many children have difficulty with
reading, writing, or other learning-related tasks at some point, but
this does not mean they have learning disabilities. A child with a
learning disability often has several related signs, and these persist
over time. The signs of learning disabilities vary from person to
person.
While learning disability,
learning disorder and learning difficulty are often used
interchangeably, they differ in many ways. Disorder refers to
significant learning problems in an academic area. These problems,
however, are not enough to warrant an official diagnosis. Learning
disability on the other hand, is an official clinical diagnosis, whereby
the individual meets certain criteria, as determined by a professional.
