Ford Kenya leader Moses Wetang’ula has said he has what it takes to be the fifth President.
He urged ODM leader Raila Odinga to support his presidential bid. Wetang’ula spoke on Saturday during the homecoming ceremony of Busia Knut executive secretary Mark Hannington Oseno in Namboto village, Samia subcounty.
The Cord co-principal urged Western residents to support one of their own for the top seat. “I’m urging you to emulate other regions. I want you to support me because I have what it takes to lead,” Wetang’ula said.
The Bungoma senator said Western leaders must forge unity to bolster the community’s chances of producing a President. “I want to appeal to leaders to unite so we can chart the way forward,” he said.
The Senate minority leader urged the former PM to give youthful leaders a chance to run for President.
Wetang’ula said Raila should not handpick leaders and impose them on voters, but let people elect leaders of their choice.

Meet Kenya's MP who has lived 22 years with bullet lodged in head

By Titus Mbuvi,
Former MP Oduya Oprong' (L) during the thanks giving prayers at Angurai Primary School in Teso North subcounty. Seated next to him is Busia Governor Sospeter Ojaamong'. / EMOJONG OSERE.
In August 2015, news broke that a former MP had been admitted to Eldoret's Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital's private wing and was in dire need of cash to clear his medical bill.
Former Busia North MP Oduya Oprong' had been rushed to the hospital after his health deteriorated at his Angurai home in Busia County's Teso North subcounty.
Oprong', since 1994, has lived a miserable life- journeying between his home and hospital- following an attempt on his life.
He was shot in the head at his Nairobi home as he prepared to start a 480 kilometres journey to his constituency where he had a fundraiser to attend.
In an interview in 2015, he narrated how the June 1994 incident turned-around his life.
"I was in the house along with my daughters in Mariakani estate in Nairobi," he said, "After the 7pm news, I got into my car, but as I reversed the vehicle, unknown gunmen shot me in the head."
He was rushed to the Nairobi Hospital for treatment but when his condition deteriorated, he was flown to London in a coma.
Later, he was airlifted and transferred to Maryland Hospital in the US where doctors successfully removed one of the bullets that was lodged in the head.
The doctors, however, advised that removing the bullet remaining at the back of the head would end his life. He was treated and discharged.
Since then, the once powerful assistant minister and ally to Kenya's first Vice President Jaramogi Oginga Odinga has lived with the bullet tacked in his brain.
The condition has left the 80 year-old frail and at one point he suffered a stroke that almost ended his life.
He currently lives in a dilapidated house in Angurai village in Busia County.
Three weeks ago, thanks giving prayers were held in remembrance of the 1994 incident which closed doors to his political dreams.
Some of the country's top leaders including Cord leader Raila Odinga, former Presidents Daniel arap Moi and Mwai Kibaki, former Attorney General Charles Njonjo, former Cabinet Minister John Keen and former Assistant Minister J D Otiende were scheduled to attend.
Oprong' remains one among the few surviving former MPs who sat in Kenya's independence Parliament of 1963.
He served as Labour Assistant Minister after he founded the Kenya Quarry and Mine Workers Union before joining the Economic Planning Ministry in 1993 as an assistant minister while serving as MP for Busia North (currently Teso North).
During the 2015 interview, he narrated how his close friends abandoned him after retreating to his rural home following the shooting.
"The attack changed my life and even those who were once my close friends and held key positions in government

Democrat Clinton makes history, wins U.S. presidential nomination

By Titus Mbuvi

Hillary Clinton secured the Democratic Party's White House nomination, coming back from a stinging defeat in her first presidential run in 2008 and surviving a bitter primary fight to become the first woman to head the ticket of a major party in U.S. history.
In a symbolic show of party unity, Clinton's former rival, U.S. Senator Bernie Sanders of Vermont, told the chairwoman from the convention floor that Clinton, 68, should be selected as the party's nominee at the dramatic climax of a state-by-state roll call at the Democratic convention in Philadelphia.
Capping nearly a quarter century in public life, Clinton will become the party's standard-bearer against Republican nominee Donald Trump in the Nov. 8 election when she accepts the nomination on Thursday.
"If there are any little girls out there who stayed up late to watch, let me just say: I may become the first woman president, but one of you is next," Clinton told the convention via a video satellite link.
In nominating Clinton, delegates made the point that the selection of a woman was a milestone in America's 240-year-old history. Women got the right to vote in 1920 after ratification of the 19th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution.
Clinton's husband, former President Bill Clinton, portrayed her in a speech to the convention as a dynamic force for change as he made a case for her White House bid.
"Hillary is uniquely qualified to seize the opportunities and reduce the risks we face, and she is still the best darn change-maker I have ever known," he said, hitting back at Republican arguments she is a Washington insider tied to the status quo.
The Democratic nominee, who promises to tackle income inequality, tighten gun control and rein in Wall Street if she becomes president, is eager to portray Trump, a businessman and former reality TV show host, as too unstable to sit in the Oval Office.
Trump, 70, who has never held elective office, got a boost in opinion polls from his nomination at the Republican convention last week. He had a 2-point lead over Clinton in a Reuters/Ipsos opinion poll released on Tuesday, the first time he has been ahead since early May.
Sanders has endorsed Clinton, but some of his supporters protested in Philadelphia against the party leadership's apparent backing of her during the Democratic primary fight.

Finally, Someone has come forward to buy Yahoo! Guess Who?

The telecommunication giant Verizon.

Yes, Verizon Communications Inc. is reportedly closing in on a deal to acquire Yahoo’s core business for about $5 Billion, according to a report from Bloomberg.

Since the agreement between the companies has not been finalized, it is unclear at this moment that which Yahoo's assets the deal would include.
"In order to preserve the integrity of the process, we're not going to comment on the issue until we've finalized an agreement," a Yahoo spokeswoman said in a statement provided to CNNMoney.
You might be wondering Why Verizon is buying Yahoo! Well, I’ll come to it in the second half of my article, because before discussing this point, let’s first focus on why Yahoo! wants to get acquired.
Why Yahoo Was Up For Sale?

Founded in 1995, Yahoo! was once the brightest star of the Web. But when its rivals including Google, Facebook and even few-years-old companies like Snapchat and WhatsApp have won over users, Yahoo! has not been able to maintain that glory.

Yahoo! CEO Marissa Mayer - formerly a Google executive - has spent billions on acquisitions so far to improve Yahoo's mobile products, expanding its audience by acquiring Tumblr and doubling down on premium media content.

But Mayer struggled to slow the overall ad sales decline of Yahoo! and failed.

Last Monday, the company accepted that its revenue fell 15% in the second quarter, after excluding accounting adjustments, and its operating profit fell 64%.

So, after keeping investors at bay for years, Mayer said Yahoo! would explore strategic alternatives, including selling its core assets.

Verizon has long been considered a suitable buyer for Yahoo’s Internet assets, which the telecom giant wants to combine with AOL - the American global mass media corporation bought by Verizon last year for $4.4 Billion.

Now, the two companies are in one-on-one discussions, and Verizon will reportedly acquire Yahoo! for about $5 Billion.
Here's Why Verizon Wants to Buy Yahoo!

So, why does a mobile telecom provider want to acquire the core editorial business of a failed Internet portal?

The sure short answer is:

Advertising!

With the success in the wireless industry, Verizon has been buying up Internet and ad technology companies, like AOL, to compete in a mobile advertising market dominated by two big players, Google and Facebook.

And for this same reason, it is now buying Yahoo!’s ad and content businesses.

Yahoo! has millions of users, and a collection of websites like Flickr, Tumblr, Yahoo Finance, and Yahoo Sports, including some digital-ad technology like Flurry and BrightRoll.

Since the growth of Verizon’s traditional telecom business has been decreased, companies like Yahoo! and AOL would necessarily help Verizon make money from digital advertising on mobile devices.

The deal would not only give Verizon a powerful collection of content and revenue from ad related to that content but also give the telecom company a considerable amount of user data to provide target advertisements to users by the telecom as well as others.

So, this is the kind of deal Verizon was interested in when it acquired Yahoo!

5 reasons why teachers make the best wife materials
BY MATT SON SANG

Listen: It's time to start dating a teacher.
Teachers are regarded as one of the top professions to date. A decision on who will be your wife solely depends on your taste, but I’m worried this information may make you change your mind. Nurses, lawyers, bankers, secretaries and other categories of women can make good wives but not as much as a teacher can. Here are a few other reasons why trying to make a teacher your main squeeze should be one of your major goals.

1.     They're pretty damn selfless.
Teachers are known to be givers. Leave alone the delivery of content to students; they have an extended generosity beyond that. Teachers not only want to mold young minds, but they also want to give to others. Givers are, of course, fairly selfless people. Relationships are a give and take that should probably involve more giving than taking, and you're bound to get a lot of that with a teacher. Yes, this transcends to the bedroom as well.

2.      You're liable to learn something new quite often.
Teachers seek for new information on daily basis so as to deliver to their respective students, but where do this knowledge end? It will at the end of the day be shared to you the husband and the kids too. And because it is both their passion and profession, you are guaranteed to learn some new and interesting goodies. Teachers will feed your stomach, your ‘other’ thing and your brain too, what a complete human being you will be? Nurses will only monitor your health, secretaries will only be interested on your records while lawyers will always subject you to some series of judgments on what is wrong or right in your relationship.

3.     Always with the kids
If you spent six to seven hours of your day with kids, you'd learn how to take creativity to a whole new level. Kids are inspired and moved by creativity, so they need the type who can think quickly on their feet.
I’m sure men will feel happy if they got someone who will always spend time with the kids. Teachers win once again. They will at the end of the day be at home with the kids; they will too spend their weekends at home, isn’t this great opportunity to monitor, train and even guide the kids? Yeah worry less she will also be there for you all this time though Sunday evening might always be your worst moment.

4.      Teachers can charm parents
They meet with them a lot, and know how to put people at ease. Date a teacher, and you won’t have to stress about the inevitable meet-the-parents dinner. From the day they enter into their first teaching job, teachers are forced to learn how to handle parents. If they can win over the parent who thinks their kid is the greatest thing since sliced bread, then your new partner will have your mom and dad like putty in his hand before the first round of cocktails are even finished

5.     Teachers are great with kids. So if you’re looking for the parent of your future kids, a teacher is a great candidate.
If you had a crush on a teacher as a youngster, now’s your chance to finally date one legally.

STAGE –MANAGED MUSO EDITOR IN THIEF INTERVIEW??

BY KIPRONO WILLY

The said interview for the post of Editor in Chief in the 30th SGC was a sham as well as a choreographed and stage managed theatrics of appointing an already claimed seat in the 30th SGC.
The call of equality and fairness in the process was a mere formality of presenting an exercise well done to the Dean of students. For instance, how can one applicant be asked ten questions and takes more than ten minutes while another applicant is asked 3 questions and takes less than three minutes during the interview. It is a white lie or let me say lies called truth.
We might say we are headed for days of doom, since ZIKISISM is already hitting a dead end and they haven't started delivering.
The panelists made of failed aspirants in the just concluded MUSO elections, seemed like a sinister motive to reward unsatisfied souls, say rubbing somebody’s back with butter. This as evidenced by the screenshot (Insert) has led to discord which resulted to sensitive revelations from some of the panelists, who aired their displeasure with the whole process which they purport was compromised.
It is a fact that the 30th SGC is occupying an empty office, an organization that is now heading to its roots but betrayed by history as a failed union of money laundering and making unfulfilled proposals. The leadership of this great university is certainly lagging, we students vote on tribal lines, our so called leaders are neither equipped to handle welfare issues or deliver on the manifestos they never had.
The 29th SGC never delivered to the comrades but perhaps they did move the "stage" outside the university. We now have to trek .Talk of the long walk to freedom.
Let you not be fooled nor lead in oblivion. Be wise and seek the truth, know your rights and speak your mind. I envision a burial for MUSO, if it is not saved by the current SGC, we will all attend the burial of MUSO since we are all at the burial site.
The organization is surely not independent, that is why we comrades cannot be defended. Remember the famous "Omondi-9", they went home since nobody defended them. Do not be surprised if no election pledges will be achieved. Weep not, for we are an already mourning institution.

The truth is, Kenyans are no longer speaking in one accord reason being we are divided by our tribal differences. I’m personally longing for that time when Kenya will have one tribe that is being a Kenyan. We fought well for our independence after suffering in the hands of the colonial man. We fought to death against racism, we made it but now we have imprisoned ourselves again with another enemy called tribalism.
To some extent, I blame our leaders but before they are brought to question, we followers have to put the blame on ourselves. Why should we suffer at the ground yet our leaders are busy loading their tummies, why don’t we come together and abide to what is beneficial to us. I leave it for you to brainstorm. Every community in Kenya has its own pride as well as a contribution to this country in one way or another. Kenya does not depend on one community to be successful. This gives a summary to some of the reasons why Kenyans should never discriminate their fellow Kenyans on the basis of tribe.
N/B at least one tribe is picked to cover other unmentioned related groups.
  1. The kikuyu and the Bantu communities contribute highly to the economy of this country. That is why we should always support them as long as we are Kenyans and the growth of Kenyan economy affects us as Kenyans.

  1. As a Kenyan, I’m always proud of the Maasai community irrespective of it being or not being my community. If Africans can be proud, why not the people from the house?. How many people have with them bed covers, clothes and even bangles made by the Maasai people? We have no choice but to unite with them.

  1. As Kenyans, we need the Kalenjin community to represent us in various sports activities in the world. Kenya has been recognized in various parts of the world due to a very respectable performance in sports. The likes of Kipchoge Keino, Janet chepkoskei, Ezekiel Kemboi and our recent champion Julius Yego only to mention a few. When they crossed the finishing lines, Kenyans were happy, Kenyans cried and too Kenyans felt the essence of being Kenyans it was not about being another tribe. The spirit of oneness.

  1. The Luo and the Luhya community are known to produce the best professors in Kenya. We need intellects, we need lecturers and we need to invest in education to move out of the bracket of third world countries. Kenya is proud of president of the United States, a man from Kisumu, everyone is proud of him despite our tribal differences. This reflects the potential of unity we possess but some of us take it for granted. We must speak one language and say no to tribalism.

  1. Kenyans from Kisii community also play a crucial role that cannot be undermined whatsoever. Soap stones, carvings, basketry and pottery are and will always remain the pride of Africa thanks to the Kisii community. If African counties brag because of you why not a fellow Kenyan, we are one. This community also has the most heavily represented Kenyans in foreign countries for example in Indian and American universities get this right ‘Kenyans’ not ‘Kisiis’. Keep on representing Kenyans.

  1.  We must be proud also as Kenyans to have the Kamba people, the only people considered to be premier martial race, sharp shooters by the British colonial government. They played a role which should never be overlooked when Kenya was fighting for independence. Don’t also forget the beautiful ladies within the Kamba land, they represent Kenya at large.

  1. When I mention Njuri Ncheke some Kenyans will shout eeeh! But not necessarily the Ameru people, just because everyone is proud to hear that. Ncheke’s shrine is gazetted as a heritage site and placed under the care of national museums of Kenya, the question is why it is placed under the museums of Kenya and not of Ameru yet they are the community?  Simple we are Kenyans and we share what we have for every individual to fit as a coherent whole.

  1. W can’t also do without Cushitic communities, Somali, Boran, Rendile and others. When I see these people I see hena, when I see these people I see Mo Farah winning the Olympic world champion distance runner, they play a vital role as Kenyans.

  1. Other Kenyan communities also kept their traditional lifestyles which will always make Kenya proud. Turkana, Samburu and other sister tribes are known for this. As long as I’m a Kenyan I will remember Paul Ereng, Ekwe Ethuro, Ajuma Nasenyama and many other people who will always put the name Kenya on top irrespective of their tribes.

  1. What about the coastal Bantus? Swahili, Mijikenda, Taita and many others. As Kenyans we have to respect these people. Their great Agricultural skills have contributed so much to this country. We can’t brag and walk away from these communities who own our ‘lugha ya taifa’ that is Kiswahili language which is spoken in the whole of Eastern Africa.

Each community in Kenya is important in one way or the other. Tribalism will end when we stop looking our names as Kenyans, when every community will respect another community, when every community understands the significance of the other community, when as Kenyans, we reflect back to where we’ve come from, this is when tribalism will be buried and forgotten forever.

Convenience for a future

Over the last few days, discussions have been taking place in anticipation of the 14th United Nations Conference on Trade and Development. This is the second time the conference is taking place in Kenya but
this time it is different. The Kenya of today is hungry and yearning for development. Our Kenyan delegation is not only made of those in Government but also the Private Sector and Civil Society, influencing decision makers on key areas of investment and driving public private partnerships.

The Internet

The best of all possible worlds would be for computers and the Internet to become part, and probably only a small part, of a thriving academy of motivated learners whose time in cyberspace is significantly exceeded by time spent reading, visiting interesting places and people, having fascinating conversations, helping their peers, developing their  physical and artistic talents, and enjoying life.

CONTRACEPTIVES

The use of contraceptives is rampant among sexually active teenagers.
Majority of these teenagers, who are not ready to abstain, are taking these drugs to prevent early and unwanted pregnancies.
Health experts have cautioned adolescents against abuse of contraceptive pills, saying health complications could be dire.
There is a new crop of parents, especially mothers, put their daughters on birth control pills, with the view that it would be safe and a long lasting solution to shame associated with unplanned pregnancies.
I call upon parents to advice their children, especially daughters on the dangers of continuous use of pills.
They are likely to interfere with their fertility, which might haunt them when they desire to start their own families.
I am challenging the youth to practice safe sex or abstain all together.
Parents, guardians and all stakeholders should sensitise the teenagers on proper sexual behaviour to avert further damage.

The World Hates Ugly People

The next time someone asks you to live long enough to blow a thousand candles, shoot them.
Old age sucks. When you are a 99-year-old, toothless, has-been snoring in the backyard in diapers, everyone, including yourself, starts wondering what the heck you are still doing around here.
You can’t enjoy a cigarette. A stiff shot of whisky would send you straight to the morgue. You have no teeth for chewing fatty roast meat. And the young pretty lass with a firm behind walking down the road could as well be a goat. Of what use is life then?
But in the unfortunate event that you live that long, and assuming that you retain a brain cell or two for memory, you will discover there are four things you haven’t seen: An ugly bride, an ugly baby, an ugly pastor and an ugly president.
We hate ugly people. That is the truth. You will never hear it whispered in a church, mosque or witchdoctor’s hut, but humanity discriminates against ugly people more than it scorns (at least in Africa) gays, women, integrity and clean public toilets.
Have you ever seen women swooning around an ugly baby, posing for photos, giving it lipstick-coloured double pecks and perfumed hugs?
I suspect ugly babies are hidden from sight, in the manner children with severe disability are tucked away in the darkest room of the house and only whispered about.
It isn’t that easy to make an ugly baby anyway. Boys in the estate don’t hover around the gate where the worst-looking broad in the neighbourhood lives. They don’t chase her like a pack of salivating wolves, even if she has a brain the size of a tractor engine.
Even before the Stone Age, it was always that girl with sleepy eyes. The one with juicy lips. The one with long legs, a sculpted butt and breasts so full they were to blame for all the bent lampposts on the road. All of the 40 boys in the estate would go chasing Sheila everywhere, but not that sorry-looking lass who was christened Anaconda by her daft mum after something she saw on television.
Go back to your school days. Teachers pet, remember? He or she was always tiny and so pretty or handsome it hurt. They always smelt fresh, even after fooling around on the pitch after school break. Clean clothes, fresh breath, not a hair out of place. Oooh, how Teacher loved them!

Students who think journalism is modelling should quit the profession

Kenyan students who enroll in tertiary colleges countrywide have not been performing well in the industry for taking the course for fun and comparing it to modelling.

The students believe journalism should be studied as the last option when all other careers such as medicine and engineering which are termed as the best professions become difficult to attain cut marks.

Kenya Television Network Chief Investigative Editor Muhamed Ali said he is worried on the future of journalism profession as people keep turning it into entertainment industry instead of using it to present serious ideas that transform the lives of citizens.

"I am scared with the way people are turning media into a showbiz as celebrities are now the upcoming Journalists and beautiful ladies are perceived to fit the industry," Ali reiterated.

Muhamed expressed his disappointments in the way journalists ask odd questions when interviewing persons who deal with criminal activities and extra judicial killings in the country.

Why Christians and Muslims marriages will never work

 By Kiprono Willy

When I think about Christians and Muslims marrying each other, the only thing that comes to mind is trouble. Yes we are both human beings and love is blind, but really religion has become something that prevents two people in love from getting married.
I have heard of cases from women who want to be disowned by the parents simply because the woman is in love with a Christian man and vice versa. Trying to choose between your parents and the person you love and want to marry can be a quite a dilemma.
Christians have their own beliefs and so do Muslims. Trying to mix the two is like oil and water; one will always be at the top and the other one at the bottom. The problem usually comes when the man asks the woman to convert and be of the other religion. I don’t understand why I should change my religion for the name of loving someone.
Take this scenario; Muslim man marries a Christian woman but both retain their own religion.  Will the parents agree to this 100 percent? Will the man and the woman allow their children to choose the religion they want? In my opinion, I believe that would not work at all.
Mtoto umleavyo ndivyo akuavyo. If you were brought up a Christian or Muslim, why change your faith after falling in love with someone? Why try to please other people and lose your faith? That is simply absurd.
I believe, as much as most of you would disagree, that most Muslim and Christian marriages don’t work out well.  For the Christian and Muslim lovers out there, all I can say is that I wish you all the best of luck, but just remember that your relationship will not be a bed of roses because you will have to work really hard to keep it.(courtesy of ureport)

Sponsors are father-figures to us — University girls

 By Kiprono Willy

“You are either a sponsor or no one”, that’s the new mantra by which most university students are living by, and they are loving it.
As testament that the ‘sponsor thing’ has gone viral, a week will hardly pass by without jaw-dropping incidences linked to this new craze — it’s leaving behind a trail of destruction.
Guns have even been drawn, shots fired and people have lost their lives!
For campus girls, having a sponsor is almost becoming a basic need.
“It’s not a bad idea to have one, considering the broke life many lead in campus. Money is a rumour. Life here is hell,” says Anne, a student from Moi University in Eldoret.
The education student adds: “Some of us are not government-sponsored students, which means you have to depend on your parents. It’s worse if your parents are poor. How do you girls to cope in college?”
Asked if she would get a sponsor, the 22-year-old said: “If I get one... why not? After all, relationships in campus are just a waste of time. Those young kids we call boyfriends are just a waste of time!”
Yusele Lowa, a 20-year-old public relations student at the Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology says: “Most of the girls I know have their campus guys for real love, but will also have a sponsor for money.”
According to Yusele, a sponsor is not necessarily a boyfriend — his work is to make the girl happy by spoiling her with gifts without complaining or setting tough conditions. Some students however seek sponsors hoping for emotional support.
“These little boys in campus take too long to mature. They don’t understand women. That’s why I date older men,” says a student who declined to be named.
Psychologist Niceta Ireri says that, “Some girls are simply hunting for a father-figure in their lives; a man to give them fatherly love.”
She adds that, “Some of these girls are seeking psychological satisfaction, they are looking for someone to talk to as most of their age mates - of the opposite sex - are lost in drugs and can’t lend them an ear.”

Campus is all about money

When a friend told me high school was all about food and that campus is all about money is when he reminded me of how high school life used to be. Scrambling for food was a developed culture where students could scoop food from a 'sufuria' before it is served on the table.

The behavior was rampant to an extent of making the person who served the meal was forced to carry the 'sufuria' on her head to avoid scooping on the way, qualifications was a tall strong guy. In campus it is a different scenario where students are obsesed with money.

Campus students are experts in scrambling for politicians money especially student aspirants who want to be elected for sits in students' body. Goons fight for their share during evening 'Kamukunjis' after shouting and screaming along the academic highways and hostel corridors.

Police 'death squads'. Kenya

The non-governmental watchdog Independent Medico- Legal Unit (IMLU) says the police killed 97 people in
2015 alone.
More recently the group says eight suspected robbers, aged between 15 and 26, were shot at close range in April, either while kneeling or lying on the ground.
Police crackdowns in the fight against Islamist militants have targeted predominantly Muslim communities
around the country in the aftermath of major attacks.
Last year, a report by the Kenya's official rights body described it as "fighting terror with terror" and reported 25 killings.
Between 2012 and 2014, three prominent clerics believed to have had links to al-Shabab were killed in the coastal city of Mombasa. Their supporters say police "death squads" killed them.
Kenyans hope the government takes up arms to a certain the citizens security.

Luhya community is not divided

By Wanyama

Western Kenya since time immemorial has been poised to be a darling to opposition although it has had some notable leaders who have served in the government namely Moody Awori (former vice president), late Kijana Wamalwa (former vice president) just to name a few.

Surprisingly, the region has produced notable academicians in various fields who have served this country driving our economy to present times. So anyone referring to Luhya people as cooks and watchmen should be reminded this. The region is also endowed with good weather conditions making it a hub for agricultural produce. Then this begs a question, is western Kenya needy to be in government?

Apart from floods in Budalang'i caused by river nzoia breaking its banks, it has never been 'needy' or hit by hunger as other regions in Kenya.

The only problem that is facing the region is poor state of infrastructure and electrification of remote areas. And being that devolution is in practice; our county governments should revamp our roads and open more feeder roads. Electricity is in poor state which should be addressed by national government in liaison with County governments. It is worse in Busia County for instance, where power blackouts are common and it can go up to a week or two.

In Agriculture, the presence of government and other non-governmental organizations have helped improve agriculture especially maize farming. Furthermore, revival of Mumias sugar company, Webuye pan paper mills, is a clear indication that our lost hope is been rejuvenated.

However, the issue has been politicized where certain politicians are using it to 'seduce' voters a head of 2017 general elections. It is also worth noting that crop of West Kenya; Butali and Kabras sugar companies are empowering the region economically. Farmers need to be taught new farming methods, trends and embrace new varieties of different crops.

The region is not divided as some people put it. That is a fallacious analogy. We may be divided politically (especially in the media) but united on the ground. The region has potential to grow economically, leave aside political dramas that we trade every day. In addition, leaders need to put interests of the community first, before thinking of enriching themselves. Whether you're a jubilee mole or a CORD sycophant, Luhya nation will forever be strong

Global Information technology report

Finland, Switzerland, Sweden, Israel, Singapore, the Netherlands and the United States are leading the world when it comes to generating economic impact from investments in information and communications technologies (ICT), according to the World Economic Forum’s Global Information Technology Report 2016.
On average, this group of high-achieving economies at the pinnacle of the report’s Networked Readiness Index (NRI) economic impact pillar scores 33% higher than other advanced economies and 100% more than
emerging and developing economies. The seven are all known for being early and enthusiastic adopters of ICT and their emergence is significant as it demonstrates
that adoption of ICTs – coupled with a supportive enabling environment characterized by sound regulation, quality infrastructure and ready skills supply
among other factors – can pave the way to wider benefits.

Loudspeakers and Noise Pollution

We had air pollution, water pollution and land pollution but today noise pollution has surpassed all these thanks to the excessive use of loudspeakers.
Noise usually goes for unwanted sound, and the problem with noise is not only that it is unwanted but also that it negatively affects human health and well-being.
Noise pollution is extreme noise that may harm the activity of human or animal life. It affects both health and behavior. Noise pollution can cause hypertension, high stress levels, hearing loss, sleep disturbances and other harmful effects to the human. High noise levels can contribute to cardiovascular and an increased incidence of coronary artery disease.
Loudspeakers were invented so that people sitting at the far end, in a gathering, could hear the speaker properly. But, our society has taken this use to new extremes. Marriages, campaigns, fundraising, even some religious gatherings seem incomplete unless the whole society is disturbed by the blaring of loudspeakers. The insensitive use of loudspeakers is not only creating noise pollution but is also creating stress among the people. According to some medical studies, the omnipresent noise generated by the misuse of loudspeakers is hazardous to the health. But in the absence of any regulations as well as enforcement, people use them as they please.
The careless use of loudspeakers has become quite a nuisance in our society. The most annoying thing is that loud speakers have become part and parcel of our everyday entertainment. People seem to believe that their entertainment life would be incomplete without the blasting of loudspeakers.
Noise pollution is already one of the greatest problems people living in close quarters have to deal with. The excessive use of loudspeakers makes it even worse.
Of course, there are occasions where their use is absolutely necessary, but there is no justification for using them in other occasions.

It is high time that authorities did something to regulate the use of loudspeakers.

A comrades' pocket is toned while in campus

At times I get irritated with the perception the society out their have on campus student. Am not being biased but the truth must be weighed in order to determine who is digging into comrades' pocket.

Last week while traveling from home to school, I met this man at stage entrance and offered to lift my luggage into the bus stage. The guy on arrival demanded sh50 for his services. To me it sounded so awkward only that I did not want to be rude to him, I told him I had sh 20. The guy kept on insisting to be given sh 50 but at last settled on sh 20.

This incident reminded me of Mary my hairdresser a month ago when I visited her salon for my hair dressing. She had narrated to me on how campus life used to be luxurious some years back when students had money to change hair styles on weekly basis and dispose their belongings such as basins, mattresses, shoes and electronic gadgets at the end of every semester only to buy new ones on reopening.

According to Mary, the business used to be lucrative due to student money and led a comfortable life, "During that time, I could plait several students with the amount of money I demand without the negotiation but nowadays things have changed, they bargain up to the last coin sticking unto their amount," Mary reiterated.

Mary said the business has gone down recently as students prefer styling their hair after every month or two due to economic hurdles they are undergoing due to reduced HELB loan deposited into their accounts unlike in the past when they used to receive huge amounts enough to buy a car in two years. Gone are the days when student leaders could drive vehicles outdoing their lecturers.

The big challenge that students face is the way outsiders view them as income earners to a point of raising the living standards in the surrounding environment. What disgusts most is the fact that residential rooms in stage goes at sh 3,500 to 8,000 per month. This is mining from a comrades pocket as they do not have choice as the university can not accommodate all the students within university premises.

Balancing parenthood and class needs contentment

Parenthood in campus is a challenging task that most students would never want to be associated with as it is too demanding and time consuming. Many term it as a way a fact that hinders them from life enjoyment in campus.

According to Evelyn Nyaboka, a fourth year student in Moi University who is a young teacher, balancing motherhood and class is not a big deal to her. She loves her kid and would do anything on earth to sustain her.

"Am able to wake up early to ensure that my boy has something to eat during the day, I do not rely on house girls to prepare a meal for Raymond," Evelyn reiterated.

Nyaboka said she is willing to do part time contracts including laundry in stage side residential in order to put food on their table since money sent from home can not sustain them. She was about to abort the child after her boyfriend dumped her on discovering her pregnancy.

For Evelyn being a mother and a student as well has made her learn to be hardworking and believes that life shall never threaten her, she is ready to face what comes her way. She has never failed in her exams and aspires to be a good teacher who would train her students to be men and women of substance.

"I do not regret for what happened in the past but I use my mistakes as stepping stones in my road to success, Raymond is my motivation."

Need to stay healthy this cold season

Recent weather changes across the country have left many wondering on what to do in order to avoid catching cold and other related diseases.

According to research done earlier, colds result from infection with a virus which mainly affect nose and throat.

Cold symptoms begin with throat discomfort or sore throat. The symptoms are followed by clear watery nasal discharge, sneezing, fatigue and at times slight fever. It is understood that post nasal drip from your nose and sinuses can cause a cough.

The first days of a cold nose can be filled with watery nasal secretions. The secretion may become thicker and darker. Dark mucus does not necessarily mean you have developed bacterial infection.
It is wise to call a doctor once you experience fever, increased weakness, pain when swallowing and coughing up greater amounts of yellow and green coloured mucus.

Research shows good hygiene can decrease viral infections such as colds and prevent the spread of cold viruses by making sure you and your family members wash your hands regularly with detergents even after coughing.

Every born person has a disability

To say disability is not inability is a true reality in life. Human beings shall never believe that they are disabled in a way as they expect a disabled person to be handicapped either not able to walk, see or hear.

The truth whether you agree or disagree is that we all have disabilities but only that the disability is not hindering us from performing normal tasks such as cooking and cleaning.

Have you ever heard that inability to understand basic arithmetic concepts such as fractions and whole numbers or having problems with motor tasks such as breaking things and inability to organize oneself is a type of disability?

Learning disability is a classification that includes several areas of functioning in which a person has difficulty learning in a typical manner, usually caused by an unknown factors. Given the "difficulty learning in a typical manner", this does not exclude the ability to learn in a different manner. Therefore, some people can be more accurately described as having a "Learning Difference", thus avoiding any misconception of being disabled with a lack of ability to learn and possible negative stereotyping.

However, many children have difficulty with reading, writing, or other learning-related tasks at some point, but this does not mean they have learning disabilities. A child with a learning disability often has several related signs, and these persist over time. The signs of learning disabilities vary from person to person.

While learning disability, learning disorder and learning difficulty are often used interchangeably, they differ in many ways. Disorder refers to significant learning problems in an academic area. These problems, however, are not enough to warrant an official diagnosis. Learning disability on the other hand, is an official clinical diagnosis, whereby the individual meets certain criteria, as determined by a professional.

“Top seat contestants” clash in radio show

BY: kiprono willy
A political radio show, MUSO DECIDES, on Moi University Radio (M.U F.M) yesterday turned ugly as aspirants in the MUSO chairmanship race took at each other, lashing each other for their alleged misgivings. Two aspirants ,Shem Ouma and Apuoyo Rathore, seemed to be at the extreme ends of the scuffle that ensued at the M.U F.M studios wich each trying to discredit the other on their reasons for joining the chairmanship race.
Apuoyo Rathore, who rides on the “we the people” slogan was put to task to defend himself against allegations by his rival Shem Ouma who claimed that Rathore was coerced by four sitting directors into entering the chairmanship race. Rathore dismissed this claim, saying that his campaign was anchored on 11 pillars, each centered towards an oversight role in the 11 MUSO dockets.
Shem Ouma, the crusader of the “we must be great” slogan who was on the opposite end rubbished Rathore’s claims that he was eying the top seat just to ensure that a Luhya clinches the seat after Rathore presented a screenshot of a conversation between Ouma and a Luhya elder, in which Ouma is said to have intimated the same. Things got interesting after the said Luhya elder came out in Ouma’s defense claiming that Ouma was seeking blessings from an older brother.
Towett Ng’etich took a backseat as he seemed to have been caught up in the middle of the scuffle pitting the two. Rathore however challenged his integrity citing a photo where he is allegedly seen to be walking behind Deputy President William Ruto, questioning his integrity as he moved to cloud Ruto’s integrity, as he made claims casting doubts to the deputy president’s integrity. This he attributed to a claim he made alleging that Towett was Ruto’s political student.
As the quest for the top seat in Moi University’s student politics intensifies, many will be keen to see how the race shapes up and how the three come out to defend their candidature. It also remains to be seen whether Rathore and Ouma will make peace or whether the two will carry on with the personal attacks against each other.

Please read this to be on the safe side.

What!!!!!!!! chewing someone's pen is just horrible get this clear.
By Matt Son Sang

Sometimes we contract diseases without noticing the genesis of the whole thing. This might be as a result of how we handle objects and expose them close to our mouths.  That pen you borrow or steal from your friend is not always safe to handle especially for those guys who perceive that everything held at hand is food.
Of course that pen you borrowed had already been exposed to someone else’s spit when that person was either very much idle or was seriously thinking about something.  I’m against the act of chewing pens but it is much better than opening your mouth open when wondering or thinking very hard because you might have even forgotten to brush your teeth.

Image result for photos of someone chewing a pen
People who think hard open their mouths, hit their heads on the wall or chew pens. People who think smart, we are not bothered about you.
Secondly, have you borrowed a pen and in the process of trying to ‘kiss’ it you meet with an unpleasant smell? Yeah that is the bacteria in the owner’s saliva; please let it rotate within the owner’s territory.  You better bear with your fiance's bacteria than interact with new ones from someone else unless you are trying to adventure into bacteriology. I know I don’t make sense to you but it carries more sense to suck the ‘soup’ on that pen’s tip hha.
Thirdly, did you know people have money for partying but not for replacing lost pens? Whatever the case, you will understand it better that very moment you will kiss a pen which had been dropped in the toilet. You now wonder if people close their eyes and remove their pens in a mixture of shit and urine. Sorry for interfering with your appetite I’m just sending some useful information.
Before you wonder, answer me this question, what would you do if your car keys, ATM, accidentally slip out of your pocket into that mixture of shit and urine, will you say to hell with it and walk away?, you can say yes but the time you’ll drop them is the time you will confess that shit is not just dirt because it is excreted from the body. ‘Germs are not aware’ will be your slogan forever.
Image result for images of pens dropped in toiletImage result for car keys in toilet images
I’m not wasting your time but I was just assuming to be in the shoes of that person who picks up his/her pen in amidst of shit mixed with urine. Don’t ever trust that pen it might have gone through that process, washed and wiped. Indeed it is clean for the person who bought it.
What will happen if your friend has tooth decay and you have a slight injury in your mouth, the result might not be friendly to talk about, we escape only in the mercies of God. Don’t waste your time friends, doing thorough cleanliness of your house and your body and end up kissing shit without your conscience.
Before I leave you to think, please check in your class or places of work, there are those people who use their pens to scratch their heads(woi dandruff) ears, nose (Is the image of mucus running through your mind?  Relax), at the back, pubic hair, buttocks (did I say shit? No sweat) legs and toes hha I'm confused if you can still borrow and chew their pens.
Bye , but before you leave people are rich because of pens, people are legends because of pens, death sentences are signed using pens, these pens are important and critical use them but don’t ‘kiss’ instead use them to write a letter to someone whom you can end up kissing until you are kissed by death. Walk away. posted by a writer from  informixmedia.blogspot.com
